Description

Summary: The area studied showed an absolute abundance of 320 individuals, comprising three orders, four families, four genera and five species. Among the species reported, Lebiasina bimaculata was predominant with 58% and Trichomycterus sp 2. was the least abundant with 4%. Of the localities sampled, the Guitarra area was predominant in the presence of the five species. On the other hand, according to the IUCN, Lebiasina bimaculata and Gambusia affinis are of Least Concern. Due to the importance of the reserve and its location, it is important to carry out more monitoring in the wet season to determine the fluctuations that exist in the populations.

Couverture géographique

The study area comprises the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest, a private reserve of 6,078 hectares that represents one of the last remnants of dry forest on the Ecuadorian coast. It is located in the province of Guayas at the southeastern end of the Chongón Colonche mountain range in the city of Guayaquil, parish of Chongón and Tarqui. Currently, the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest is managed by the Pro-Bosque Foundation, a private organisation in charge of reforestation, agroforestry, research, environmental education and ecotourism (Bosque Cerro Blanco, 2021). Due to the magnitude of the study area, a prioritisation based on socio-environmental aspects was carried out, resulting in four zones: protected zone (Jaguar), tourist zone, urban zone (Antena 507) and the potentially invaded zone (Pigio).

Titre Diversity and abundance of the ichthyofauna of the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest, Ecuador
Description du domaine d'étude / de recherche The biological inventory of the ichthyofauna component was carried out at 7 sampling sites in Jaguar, Condor, Búho, Pigio, Guitarra, 507 and Turismo (Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco), with a total of 21 sampling points (3 points at each site) and a transect of 100 m at each point. Each sampling site had an ecosystem similarity.
Description du design Methodology
Field Phase
The information on the ichthyological component was obtained by means of the Rapid Biological Inventory methodology, using a 3-metre-long chinchorro with a 1/8-inch mesh eye and larval-mesh hand nets. This combination of fishing gear makes it possible to take a greater number of species, reducing sampling bias and has been suggested by various authors such as: Barriga & Olalla, 1983; Sostoa & García, 2005; Elosegi & Sabater, 2009; among others.
Daytime sampling was carried out in the Jaguar, Condor, Búho, Pigio, Guitarra, 507 and Turismo sectors, covering 100 m upstream and 100 m downstream at each site, making 5 hauls and 10 collections with hand nets. The different fishing gears are used according to the conditions of the river bed, sites with pools or small bends without the presence of trunks or branches are suitable for the use of the chinchorro and the hand net.
A photographic record was taken of the freshly caught fish in order to obtain information on their fresh colouring, and they were subsequently released, as the methodology used did not allow specimens to be sacrificed.
Species identification was carried out taking into account their morphobiometric attributes, using taxonomic classification keys such as Eigenman 1985; Guery, 1977; Nijssen, 1985; Kullander, 1984; Weber, 1992, Isbrucker, 1978, among others.
Sampling effort
At each sampling site, 100 m transects were carried out, the sampling effort was equal at all points, two researchers specialised in ichthyofauna sampled at each site and two hours of sampling were carried out.
