Description
The Mashpi entomology museum has an entomological collection created and supported thanks to collaborations with experts and the different entomological studies developed in the Mashpi Protected Forest since 2017. The museum was born to impart environmental education through the collection, offering a better understanding and appreciation of invertebrate diversity and its importance to the forest. The collection is also open to interested scientists who wish to study it. Also, there are even great possibilities of finding new species for science that need to be described.
The collection has more than 400 specimens collected within the reserve, with the Lepidoptera order being the most abundant in samples. The main reason is that, since 2017, butterflies' long-term monitoring has been carried out in Mashpi in collaboration with Keith Willmott and Patricio Salazar, among other researchers.
It should be noted that the geographic coordinates of each of the specimens are a reference based on the location of Mashpi Lodge. They do not correspond to the original collection site.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 462 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.
