<para>The traps were placed in a linear transect of 800 metres, interspersing the trapping stations every 15 metres. The first station was started with four Sherman traps and the next station with a single Tomahawk trap, the process was repeated until a total of 40 stations (96 Sherman and 16 Tomahawk) were completed. Two types of bait were used, the first consisted of a mixture of peanut butter, tuna, vanilla essence and oat flakes; the second bait was apple and carrot. The baits were randomly placed in the traps and changed daily (Peru. Ministry of Environment, 2015). The traps were checked every 24h for 9 days.</para>
